Vital bleaching:
It is a type of bleaching in which the process is done at the clinic in one sitting. The procedure takes for about an hour and involves application of the bleaching product three times on the teeth. It involves curing the bleaching product with a blue light.
Non vital bleaching/walking bleach:
It is a type of bleaching which is done on a tooth individually. The tooth has to be non vital and root canal treated. The belaching agent is placed inside the tooth by removing the restoration of the access opening of the tooth. It is left in the tooth for a period of 2 weeks with a regular follow up visit to keep a check on the shade of the tooth.
Home bleaching:
In this process you will receive a customized tray of your teeth with the bleaching kit from your dentist. The bleaching product has to applied as a small dot on each tooth of the tray. The trays are then worn by you for the night and has to be removed in the morning. You should not eat or drink while you have the trays in your mouth.

What to expect post bleaching?
Post bleaching you shall expect to have sensitivity in your teeth for a few days. This can be reduced by using anti sensitivity tooth pastes for the time being for brushing instead of your normal tooth paste. In case the sensitivity is severe then you shall contact your dentist.
For how long does the bleaching last?
Bleaching is an esthetic procedure and is not a permanent solution to the yellowness of the teeth. Once the bleaching is done it lasts you for a period of 10 months to an year depending on your habits.
Instructions to be followed post bleaching:
- To consume all white food products for the next 24 hours
- Avoid any foods containing stains of red or yellow ( normally found in indian spices).
- Avoid taking wine or staining beverages like Pepsi, Fanta etc.
- Avoid eating food with tomatoes as I can stain the teeth.
- Brush your teeth with anti-senstivity tooth pastes instead of your normal tooth pastes.
- If your dentist has given you home bleaching kit, kindly use it as instructed by your dentist.
