Platelets have been well known for their promising application in healing acceleration & regeneration. Besides its use in soft tissue regeneration, PRP also benefits in anti-aging therapy & other regenerative applications.
PRP procedure that has been effectually into use for ages to heal injuries is now escalating as a treatment of choice to rejuvenate one’s skin by use of autologous blood in order to refine the appearance of acne scars, stretch marks, fine & deep wrinkles, dark circles & puffiness under eyes, sun damage etc.
Introduction
Platelet Rich plasma (PRP) is an autologous preparation of platelets in concentrated plasma.
The prepared PRP via centrifugation comprises of higher concentration of growth factors like: platelet derived growth factors (PDGF), transforming growth factors (TGF), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), fibroblast growth factor, epidermal growth factor, connective tissue growth factor.
These highly concentrated growth factors invigorate fibroblasts & endothelial cells to proliferate & differentiate leading to angiogenesis (formation of new blood vessels), new collagen deposition & contraction.
Preparation of PRP
The procedure begins by first collecting the patient’s own blood into a test tube. The tube is then placed in a centrifuge where it spun down & separate out the plasma rich in platelets.
The platelets are necessary for normal clotting. However, when activated they release several proteins & growth factors that lead to increase collagen formation, connective tissue formation, increased skin elasticity & eventually overall rejuvenation.
The separated platelets are then injected to the face & neck area. The injections are performed via use of tiny needles.
The results are usually seen within 2-4 months & may need 2-3 sessions.
What to expect during & after the procedure
During the procedure few ml of blood will be drawn from your vein & during the preparation, your skin will be cleansed & prepared for the procedure.
Using thin needles, the platelet rich plasma will be injected into the affected area of the skin. The injections are relatively painless & the procedure is completed with speed & efficiency.
Post treatment one can expect mild swelling & redness that subsides 24-48 hrs of the procedure. Since the PRP is prepared from your own blood, hence eliminating the likelihood of any side effects.
Outcome
The objective of PRP skin rejuvenation therapy is to boost up your skin texture, tone, increase tightness & elasticity, soften pores & lines.
When compared with other face rejuvenation treatments, PRP has manifested clearly to be a most secure, safe & exceptional additive treatment for skin rejuvenation.
At Dr. Sachdeva’s Dental Institute, we frequently supplement PRP treatment with the use of microneedles for superior absorption & excellent results.
