Is dental treatment really expensive? Well, we believe that it’s a very subjective question. It depends on what you need. The more extensive the damage, the costlier the repair if treatments should be done using the best materials and methods available to ensure proper function and most natural appearance.
In a very honest opinion I think Dental Treatment is not expensive, Neglect is! Why I say so is because; Patients often delay their regular dental appointments due to hectic schedules or because the current economic environment has them spending their hard earned money elsewhere. If this sounds familiar in your own home you are NOT alone!
Most of us have done it—put off regular dental checkups and cleanings. Even if a tooth is bothering us or we notice that our gums are looking red or puffy or that our gums bleed when we floss, we just ignore it because we’re “too busy” and “it’s no big deal, right?” Unfortunately, it can cost a lot more than time if we allow dental care to get pushed to the bottom of our “to do” list.
What scares us, as your dental care providers, is the decision to delay your treatment now will cost you much more money in the future! There are common excuses to not see us and how many of the most common excuses for avoiding the dentist are misguided and even dangerous!
- Dental Phobia– A trip to the dentist isn’t typically on anyone’s list of fun things to do. In fact, some people become more stressed out than others about seeing the dentist. This well -recognized fear can lead to panic attacks and serious episodes of uncontrollable fear. When someone avoids the dentist at all costs it can lead to serious oral health problems, heart disease and even stroke!!
- Nothing Currently Hurts– If you are not experiencing pain right now that’s wonderful! However, it does not mean there’s not something wrong especially if you have been avoiding the dentist for a long time. If you have a cavity that is not symptomatic it probably means the decay hasn’t gotten deep enough to affect the nerve. The sooner you catch a cavity, the less time and anesthetic it usually requires to restore. It’s also LESS EXPENSIVE to restore as the old adage says: “Prevention is better (and less expensive) than Cure!
- I’m too busy– We all lead busy lives but it is so imperative to keep and maintain your oral healthcare and make it a priority. Maintaining routine checkups for you and your family will help prevent serious and costly problems from arising in the future.
Delaying routine dental checkups and cleanings and ignoring signs of tooth or gum problems may be common, but can also be expensive.
Save money, enjoy life, stay healthy and even live longer are some of the benefits of maintaining a healthy mouth. All it involves is a toothbrush, some floss, toothpaste, and a commitment to use them a couple of times a day. It is also important to visit a dental professional for preventive care atleast once a year! Preventive care is by far the most cost-effective dental treatment there is. It’s where the real value of dental treatment lies.
One of the primary advantages of preventive care is that it’s very much in the hands of the individual. And this is very empowering.
The Cost of Avoiding the Dentist
Unhealthy teeth are expensive teeth. The more unhealthy, the more expensive. That’s why it’s so important to act quickly when you begin to notice dental problems. f you don’t take care of your teeth, you’re destined to lose them—and pay for them too. A trusted dentist is your greatest ally in the fight for oral health. The costs of regular dental checkups pale in comparison to the cost of avoiding professional dental care.
A problem that could have been prevented with regular checkups and cleanings or a simple non-invasive treatment can turn into a painful and costly dental problem before you know it. For example, an untreated cavity that could have been treated with a small filling if caught early can turn into an expensive root canal and crown. Likewise, periodontal disease or an infected root canal, both of which likely could have been resolved with far less pain and expense if treated early, can turn into a lost tooth and costly bridge or implant. The prices of more serious Dental problems can be alarmingly high!
You use your teeth every day—to eat and to smile. Make them a priority and you will be rewarded with a healthier mouth and body—and you will drastically reduce your chances of having to deal with more time-consuming, painful, and expensive dental visits!
